KySES Endorses Proposed RE Legislation -- 12.5% by 2020
01/06/2010
KySES has endorsed an outline of proposed legislation that would implement a 12.5% Renewable Portfolio Standard ("RPS") in Kentucky. The bill would also encourage conservation and efficiency and create new financing mechanisms for renewable energy systems.
The legislation is being drafted by the Kentucky Sustainable Energy Alliance ("KSEA"), an umbrella group including the Kentucky Resource Council, attorney Tom FitzGerald, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth and the Sierra Club (apologies to those hardworking folks we haven't listed). KSEA met in Lexington on December 2 (photo above).
KySES Board members debated provisions of the bill prior to endorsement. Chair Denis Oudard hopes to meet with legislators to provide educational assistance. Board member Josh Bills is drafting a policy paper explaining the impact of provisions relating to solar energy.
